F stop icu5/4/2023 Apologies for the quality of the casual phone pictures. I wouldn't venture out with this much gear at once (my current gear is in my profile, and everything except the RX1R II, a7R III and Sigma 500/4 is pictured in the ICU), but I wanted to see how well the ICU would fit pretty much everything I have. Here are some pictures of the ICU loaded up and in the two backpacks I own: Deuter Freerider Pro 30 and Gregory Targhee 45. While the A-mode ICUs obviously are not made to the standard of F-Stop's ICUs, for a third of the price, I'm cool with that. I like them as they give the ICU a bit more rigid structure. I swapped out the included dividers for some TrekPak insert pieces I had lying around. This is a shallow ICU that is a great size for non-gripped DSLRs or mirrorless bodies. I got one of A-mode's ICUs off eBay for $30. I have a few of these inserts - their pricing schedule encourages over-ordering - and am pleased with them.īringing this old thread back to add my $.02. And no need to buy from ebay resellers either, some of them ask for $70+. One more thing, do NOT order directly from the A-mode website, they charge you $46 there. Not sure what happens after second order. After placing the first order they send you a $10 coupon to use towards future purchases. If you do need to order more than one thing from them consider placing the orders separately. I am not associated with them in any way except as a satisfied customer. They also sell the equivalent of the medium ICU, spec dimensions are less than 1cm smaller than the F-stop version. If you have any questions or request for additional information just reply here or shoot me a PM. And here it is inside my Gregory Targhee 45, seems tailor made for it.Īpologies for the need to click the links, FM embedding does not play well with images from Google Drive. Not sure why anyone sane would haul that much stuff, I had to pull out every last lens I own to fill the ginormous thing. Here is the ICU outside the pack fully loaded Seems like a more than fair price for value received. So far I am very pleased with what you get. If they made a version that is around 33-34cm tall it would be perfect for me, enough to comfortably fit the D800 with 80-400 attached, but without all the excess space. The thing is CAVERNOUS, perhaps too much so. And if you do need the loops that is a 15 minute job with a needle and some webbing.Īnother thing to consider is that this ICU is nearly 5cm taller than the F-stop version, so it may not fit in packs that are fully occupied by the F-stop large pro. With an ICU this size I don't think this makes a ton of difference, as the back flap opening will hold it securely in place. Unlike the F-stop Insanely Costly Units (aka ICUs) there are no loops on the side of the ICU to attach to the shell of the pack. Even if you don't want to bother it is still possible to tuck the lid away easily, it will consume maybe 1/2 inch of space in the pack as is. One minor nit is that it is not possible to easily remove the light padding from the lid to fold seamlessly under the ICU when used inside the backpack, but this can easily be fixed with a razor blade and a bit of stitching. The ICU arrives with sufficient dividers and straps. If anything the walls have a bit more rigidity to them. Quality is AT LEAST on par with my F-stop medium ICU (vintage from 5 years ago). When the order ships they will give provide you with a tracking number. OUTSTANDING customer service, they will contact you within 1 hr after placing order if the item is out of stock and give you a pretty tight estimate when the order will ship. Got my A-mode large pro ICU knockoff from Hong Kong today, my price was $24 shipped they have now raised the price to $30 Large Pro F-stop ICU replacement for $30 shipped.
